Thanks to its key partnership with F’SAGRI, the international “4 per 1000” Initiative ‘Soils for Food Security & Climate’ is empowered to organize a joint F’SAGRI - “4 per 1000” Southern Africa Regional Conference on Soil Health, which will take place in Pretoria, South Africa, from 24 to 26 June 2026. This regional think-tank conference will involve experts and practitioners from South Africa, and neighbouring countries, in the interdisciplinary fields of soil health, food security, climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Objectives of the regional conference
The regional conference will be organized with the following specific objectives:
- To deliberate on the potentials, challenges, opportunities, and strategies for soil health, soil carbon sequestration, and agroecology in the region, including the view of all stakeholder groups involved.
- To formulate elements of recommendation regarding soil health and agroecology.
- To create a multi-stakeholder exchange, to foster a better understanding of which methods are suitable in different contexts and farming systems while identifying research and education gaps regarding the development of respective monitoring systems.
- To showcase technical developments related to the monitoring of soil health and soil organic carbon.
- To propose an implementation pathway from policy to action through a regional “4 per 1000” Roadmap.
