On note également des avancées marquantes tout au long de la COP comme la concrétisation du fonds « pertes et dommages » ou encore la place plus importante accordée à l’agriculture. The FAO published its Roadmap for achieving 1.5 degrees and Zero Hunger (SDG2). This marks the first time the UN has established a global roadmap for how to align food systems with climate action. The first phase of the report, published yesterday, is global in scope. At COP29 the FAO will publish regional roadmaps, followed by national roadmaps at COP30.

Les sols, objet de lutte contre le changement climatique
Les terres émergées séquestrent environ 30 % de nos émissions de gaz à effet de serre. Ce puits de carbone est cependant menacé, sous l’effet du changement climatique et des changements d’usage des sols. Des pratiques agricoles inspirées de l’agroécologie permettraient de maintenir le potentiel de stockage des terres cultivées et des pâturages, tout en répondant aux enjeux de sécurité alimentaire. Sur la scène internationale, les capacités de stockage des sols pourraient devenir un objet de négociation et modifier les relations entre pays.

Food COP:
* During the World Climate Action Summit on Friday, UAE environment and climate change minister Mariam Almheiri announced the Emirates Declaration on Sustainable Agriculture, Resilient Food Systems and Climate Action. Some 134 countries signed the agreement at the time of the announcement which included the intention to make food systems a part of future NDCs.
* Separately, the Climate Champions announced that over 150 non-state actors have signed a Call to Action calling for transformation of food systems for people, nature and climate. (We’ll be writing a short article on Food at COP in an upcoming issue).
* The World Economic Forum, with support from the Government of the United Arab Emirates, along with more than 20 corporate and research partners in the food sector, launched today the First Movers Coalition for Food aiming for a combined procurement value for low-carbon commodities of $10-$20 billion from coalition members.
* The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced a partnership with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) that will help smallholder farmers in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia adapt to climate change with new commitments totaling US$200 million.
